Letter from Our Executive Director

Dear Friends,

In 2025, Level Up Cincinnati moved from "a program proving itself" into "a model delivering repeatable results." The most defining feature of the year was not only that we grew, but that our purpose became visible in real-time through student outcomes.

We saw the core idea of Level Up fully come to life: a community of mentors and champions creating access, students being ready for the moment, and then converting that access into real opportunity.

Connection points weren't symbolic. They became internships, jobs, career clarity, confidence, resilience, and momentum.

This year also strengthened the scaffolding that makes those outcomes scalable. We built more structure around mentorship, introduced clearer measures of success through the P.A.C.E. model, and invested in systems that keep students supported without overwhelming their schedules. The result was a program that is more mature, more measurable, and more sustainable—while still retaining the relational intensity that makes it work.

One of your most important observations was that freshmen are showing more resilience and stability. Students using mentors to navigate imposter syndrome and the emotional weight of being on their own. This is often the invisible moment where first-generation students drift, disengage, or lose confidence. Level Up is intervening at the point where long-term success is decided.

None of this would be possible without our donors, mentors, and corporate partners. Thanks to you, our revenue grew by 13% this year, allowing us to invest even more in scholarships, mentorship, and programming. Your support is shaping the next generation of leaders.

Stories That Prove the Model Works

These stories are more than inspiration—they're proof that the model works. Level Up Cincinnati is actively moving students into professional outcomes.

Sarah

Sarah

When Sarah joined Level Up in 2024, she was heading into her junior year at UC studying international business and marketing. Like many first-generation students, she was motivated but unsure what direction to take. Then she was paired with her mentor, Stacy Rodarte.

From the beginning, Stacy helped Sarah see things differently. "Sales isn't about pressure—it's about people," Stacy told her. That one sentence changed everything. "I started realizing that my strengths—being curious, asking questions, and connecting with others—could actually be my career," Sarah recalls.

At a Level Up networking event, Sarah met Max Langenkamp (Sr. VP of HR at Cintas) and Dion Goins (General Manager). She applied for Cintas's Management Trainee program but missed the timing. Instead of walking away, she asked what she could do to stand out. They suggested earning a sales certificate—so she did, using Level Up's Professional Advancement Reimbursement Fund.

When she reapplied, Sarah felt more prepared, focused, and confident. In her final interview, she met Kate Roettgers, Group VP of Operations at Cintas—who had attended Level Up's Elevating Women event earlier that year, where Sarah was a student speaker. Neither realized their paths would cross again.

The Outcome

Sarah received a full-time Management Trainee offer with Cintas, starting after graduation in 2026. "Words cannot describe how incredibly grateful I am for Stacy's continued support. No matter the setbacks, she always stayed positive to help me tackle a new challenge."

Martha working at TriHealth's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Martha

Martha entered college feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about whether she belonged. Through Level Up Cincinnati, she was paired with Elena, a mentor who focused not only on academics and career goals, but on Martha as a whole person.

Martha had been considering taking a gap year after her undergraduate degree to work and save money before pursuing nursing. But when she learned that Level Up Cincinnati could support her through her master's degree as well, everything changed. With that encouragement, she applied directly to UC's nursing program—and was accepted.

Over time, Martha grew more comfortable asking for help, stepping outside her comfort zone, and engaging with opportunities she previously would have avoided. Speaking at Level Up's Elevating Women event marked a turning point in her confidence.

The Outcome

Martha is now pursuing her master's degree in nursing while working in TriHealth's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit—her dream role. The position is giving her invaluable hands-on experience while setting her up for success after graduation.

Nick with his mentor Stuart Gilchrist

Nick

Nick, a senior Aerospace Engineering student at the University of Cincinnati, was paired with Stuart Gilchrist, a UC engineering alum who works at GE Aerospace. From the beginning, the match was intentional—pairing a driven student with a mentor who could relate to his academic journey and help him navigate the demanding world of engineering.

Stuart provided insights into the rigors of engineering studies, helping Nick excel in his coursework and projects. Leveraging his industry connections, Stuart facilitated an internship opportunity for Nick at Beehive Industries, an innovative defense contractor specializing in advanced propulsion systems. The experience opened Nick's eyes to what was possible.

The Outcome

Upon graduation, Nick will join Williams International as a rotational engineer—designing jet engines, his dream role. "I would never have been able to make it to this point without you guys," Nick shared. "This achievement is yours as much as it is mine."

I would never have been able to make it to this point without you guys. I wanted to say thank you so much to everyone in the Level Up family. This achievement is yours as much as it is mine.

The Power of Mentorship

Coach Success Stories

The core of Level Up's success lies in the authentic relationships between students and their coaches. In 2025, we supported our scholars through 29 dedicated coaches, each playing a pivotal role in students' development.

Stephanie and Tricia

Stephanie & Tricia

Coach & Scholar

Stephanie, a first-generation college graduate herself, joined Level Up Cincinnati as a mentor to Tricia, a freshman navigating the transition to college. Initially shy and nervous about independence, Tricia transformed through months of conversations, practice, and encouragement.

Tricia secured an internship as a freshman, connected with professors, and ran long-distance races—now confidently introducing herself and pursuing opportunity.

Jordan and Ndeye

Jordan & Ndeye

Coach & Scholar

Ndeye entered college feeling overwhelmed and alone. Through Level Up, she was paired with Jordan, a mentor whose confidence and presence helped Ndeye reimagine what was possible for herself. Rather than specific advice, it was Jordan's example that empowered Ndeye to trust her decisions.

Ndeye described the mentorship as "life-changing"—having someone believe in her allowed her to begin believing in herself.

Harrison and Ian

Harrison & Ian

Coach & Scholar

When they first met, Ian was reserved and shy, struggling through his freshman year. Harrison, an investment analyst, stuck with him—helping Ian explore different paths from computer engineering to finance to construction management. Through it all, Harrison has been a steady cheerleader by his side.

When Ian needed summer work, Level Up partner Green City Demolition stepped up. CEO Dan gave Ian a job on the spot. Now in his second year, Ian is more confident, more engaged, and has a clear path forward.
